Originally from Germany, Matthias Goertz has been working in management consulting in Asia for more than 25 years, alternating between Bangkok and Singapore as his base.
Matthias holds a PhD, summa cum laude, in philosophy and literature from the European Graduate School’s Division of Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought, where he is also a Heinrich von Kleist Fellow. He previously earned three master’s degrees, in sociology (MSc), Asian studies (MA) and business administration (MBA) from the London School of Economics and UC Berkeley, as well as a Diplom-Kaufmann from WHU Koblenz.
Over the years he has advised business and government leaders in the areas of business strategy, policy design, and organisational development. He has been a principal or partner in several consultancy firms including: Booz Allen Hamilton, The Boston Consulting Group, and Monitor Group. In 2013, he set up his own consulting firm and has been working with a range of clients to grow their businesses, develop their organisations, and innovate across South-East Asia. In 2020, he co-founded Pivotscapes, a company building and deploying immersive tools and techniques that help power companies’ growth.
He is passionate about combining a number of coaching styles with a rigorous thinking practice in order to catalyse successful and sustainable change in his clients’ behaviours and organisations. Matthias coaches many organisations as they navigate dynamic and rapid change environments. He is a fully trained Co-Active coach and coaches in a style that is open-minded, balanced, and authentic.
Apart from his work as advisor, coach, and entrepreneur, Matthias has been pursuing his passion for literature. He has published three books about the work and life of the poet and dramatist Heinrich von Kleist; currently he is working on a project tracing a common and consistent codified thread he perceives to be permeating the Age of Goethe.
