 Higher Purpose

What really motivates you?

A higher purpose is an individual's personal mission statement. It is an individual's legacy, which stretches beyond the immediate and sets the tone for a person's commitment to their work. If a person can express their higher purpose within the context of the organization, then there is alignment. From alignment a natural motivation will occur as individuals push both their own and their organization's development, growth and success. For an organization to remain competitive it must manage its functional units, from the Board of Directors to the working groups. For any individual to be effective within a unit, they must be able to express their personal higher purpose within their business objectives. If there is a consistency between an organizational Mission Statement and an individual's higher purpose then there will be commitment on a deeper level. With consistency a corporation adds meaning to an individual's work life.

The Bigger Story

When we move beyond vested self interest we see how we interact with the big story. In each of our lives there is a little story and a big story. The little story is the story of us, our ego and our self. It can be a wholesome or unwholesome story depending on how we condition it. However, real satisfaction arises when the little story is integrated into a bigger story. The great work (i.e. prevention of violence and war, survival of the planet, world peace) requires something of each of us. If we neglect this, we remain trapped in our little stories. Life becomes truly worthwhile when we can escape our little story.

Our great story is not a trivial one. It is where inspiration resides. It is the story of spreading peace and harmony in the world, of constructive and spirited response to obstacles through compassion and cooperation, and it gives our lives true meaning.

How do we connect with our big story so that it is there in our work and with our families. ALI uses the exploration of higher purpose (our relationship to the big story) in structured workshops with individuals and teams in order to make this connection. We believe it is a critical part of our mission.

Each of us defines our own higher purpose. But ALI has developed a system that helps both individuals teams and even organizations in this exploration process. Higher Purpose inspires true motivation.

This service is provided by ALI to its existing clients by donation.
